ECOG 4.0 project: Technology and sustainability for the future of green road and highway infrastructure The Digital Site for Green Maintenance is born

23 October 2024

Ravenna, Oct. 18, 2024 – Technological innovation, environmental sustainability and highway green maintenance: these are the important elements on which ECOG 4.0, the project of Ecogest and Ecogest North America, is based, presented by Valerio Molinari at the International Road Federation (IRF) in Istanbul. The project opens the door to a new era of green management along transportation infrastructure, proposing advanced solutions to respond to the devastating effects of climate change.

The Climate Change Study Centre (CCSC) recently released a report that not only analyzes the impact of climate on infrastructure, but also proposes strategies to mitigate it. Underlying it is a key concept: Technological innovation can become an irreplaceable ally in green infrastructure management.

We are going beyond traditional approaches to show how innovation, if used correctly, can create added value even in a sector like road and highway greening,” said Valerio Molinari, founder of Ecogest.

The future is digital: from traditional maintenance to “Site 4.0”

With ECOG 4.0, Ecogest’s goal is to revolutionize green maintenance through cutting-edge technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and Industry 4.0. The project aims to digitally connect the company to the worksite, enabling real-time monitoring of operating machines and optimizing every step of the process. This innovative approach promises to reduce costs and time while improving the sustainability of operations.

“Digitization will transform the highway Green Site into a true ‘Digital Site,’ capable of maximizing production performance and ensuring more efficient management of resources,” Molinari continues. “Thanks to this technology, it will be possible to monitor the condition of green areas and operate promptly, safeguarding biodiversity and entomofauna.

Innovation in the service of the environment: a new challenge for sustainability

Climate change imposes new and urgent challenges. In this context, ECOG 4.0 represents not only a technological evolution, but a real response to current environmental needs. Green maintenance thus becomes an integral part of a long-term strategy aimed at preserving the natural balance of areas traversed by transportation infrastructure.

“The application of technologies such as IoT will enable us to address these challenges with an innovative and sustainable approach, improving the quality of our work and reducing our environmental impact,” Molinari concluded.

With the ECOG 4.0 project, Ecogest not only wants to redefine the way infrastructure is managed, but to demonstrate how technology and sustainability can go hand in hand to create a more responsible and innovative future.
